Granite Beyond Countertops

Though countertops are one of the most popular ways to use granite, there are many more alternatives to use it in your home. You may not realize the different ways granite can function. In this article, we will take a look at two other ways granite proves useful. It may give you some ideas outside of kitchen countertops and bathroom vanities.

Granite and Bathroom Sinks
While porcelain sinks often make an appearance in the bathroom, it's not the only material available. You may not know that granite can be used for sinks too. It's visually appealing and functional in the bathroom. And using it for a sink instead of a bath vanity top is a pleasant surprise that can add that extra bit of visual interest.

Is granite strong enough for a bathroom sink? While it's no secret granite is durable, you may think a granite sink could only work in a guest bathroom, where it's not used much. This stone, however, is more than beautiful and you don't need to be shy about using it. As a mold and mildew resistant product, granite functions well in bathrooms in general, especially as sinks. It won't scratch or stain easily, and regularly cleaning with mild products is enough to protect the finish. With such attributes, granite sinks are perfect for everyday use.

Granite sinks come in a variety of choices. Sturdy and intricate pedestal sinks would work well for a secondary bathroom or a smaller bathroom. More modern basins mount on top of bath vanities, creating an elegant spa atmosphere. These sinks are formed from a solid piece of granite so there are no seams. And the finish is polished with a glossy sheen for that traditional granite appearance.

A granite sink may be just the thing to polish off your master or guest bathroom.

Granite As a Tabletop
Again, this may be a more unusual way to use granite in your home. Granite's famous durability, timelessness, and beauty is just as obvious in the shape of a tabletop. Tabletops don't need to be hidden away where no one uses them. Flaunt one in your kitchen as part of a breakfast nook or set up your computer and other hardware on top of it to create a unique office space. A granite tabletop might make a nice side table in the living room or a place to set your purse and keys in the entryway. Or set flowers on top of a granite tabletop and make it a centerpiece in the foyer. A sun room, porch, or patio are also places that could benefit from a unique granite tabletop.

These are just two other ways besides countertops that granite can be funtional in the home. You need a practical and attractive sink in the master bathroom. And tabletops come in handy not only in the kitchen but also in the home office, patio, or foyer. So while granite countertops remain popular for many reasons, don't discount these other ways to use granite in your home.
